WE’RE CLOSING THE GAP- HELP US REACH 10K BY APRIL 1ST!

Friends and Neighbors of DeKalb County Commission District 3,

My name is Tommy T. Travis, and today, Feb 28, 2026, I am proud to announce my campaign for DeKalb County Commissioner, District 3.

In the 2024 special election, more than 9,000 District 3 voters placed their trust in me. Although we fell short of victory, that campaign confirmed something important: District 3 needs clear communication, real collaboration, and consistent leadership.

I did not plan to run again. But the work kept calling.

Since that special election, District 3 has faced serious challenges. We have seen economic setbacks, including the loss of the Kroger in the Belvedere Plaza on Memorial Drive, Big Lots on Candler Road, and a many small businesses. Our neighborhoods have experienced an unprecedented number of Special Land Use Permit applications for unwanted residential care homes. Too often, residents have felt left out of decisions that directly affect their quality of life.

I have lived in unincorporated Southwest DeKalb since 2001. Over the years, I have served:

  • My neighborhood association
  • Beulah Baptist Church
  • Local and State PTA leadership
  • The DeKalb NAACP
  • The DeKalb County Democratic Committee
  • DeKalb Community Council 3 (8 years)
  • The DeKalb County SPLOST I Citizens Oversight Group
  • As a DeKalb County employee for five years, gaining firsthand knowledge of county operations

In January 2025, I founded the South DeKalb Coalition to ensure residents in unincorporated Southwest DeKalb have a strong, organized voice. Over the past year, we have:

  • Published a weekly newsletter to keep residents informed and engaged
  • Led the successful public push for the first extension of the data center moratorium
  • Helped expedite the renaming of Ellenwood Park in honor of Dr. Alice White Bussey
  • Helped SW DeKalb residents and a responsible developer to collaborate to redevelop long-blighted property
  • Successfully opposed inappropriate residential care home placements in multiple neighborhoods

I have been showing up for District 3 without holding a title or having access to county commissioner resources. When elected, I will:

  • Listen to residents concerns before casting votes
  • Hold consistent monthly District 3 meetings
  • Prioritize public safety
  • Support economic growth and responsible development
  • Advocate for our seniors
  • Work to enhance school excellence

I am ready to bring my experience, integrity, and proven results to the DeKalb County Commission so all District 3 residents always have a voice at the table.

On May 19, 2026, I respectfully ask for your vote.
